Mike Mongillo and Kevin Smith

Nick Bottom: Scrappy orphan becomes gifted Ivy Leaguer. Idealistic government agent becomes hard-nosed vigilante. City hero becomes one of America's ten most wanted. And who's there to catch the man who would dare to be a superhero? The love he left behind, Big Brother Agent, Vanessa Fields.

Playfully deconstructing the costumed avenger mythos, artist Michael Zittel and writer Michael Mongillo walk the fine line of lampooning the superhero genre while reveling in all its guilty pleasures. The Philistine is action/adventure/intrigue/romance at its strangest.

Fans of Kevin Smith will remember The Philistine and its creators as the cats across the aisle from Bluntman and Chronic inker Jason "Banky" Lee in the closing comic con scene of Chasing Amy. The Philistine, Michael Zittel and Michael Mongillo's critically acclaimed comic book mini-series, was released in the mid-'90s by One Shot Press but was never published in its entirety. Now available as The Philistine Anthology/Chronology, this complete collection gathers the previously published "Origin" issues, the unreleased issues from that mini-series, two never-before seen "Mexico Adventures," as well as the (literally) lost (and recently found) issue zero.
